In the library of the Boekman Foundation, there are 14 seats and 2 mobile tables available. Six of them with a laptop with the internal catalog of the library. Many of these places have an outlet available so using a laptop is possible. The library has wireless Internet access.
The Boekman Foundation is able to facilitate a few interns at any one time. The staff discusses the nature of the proposed research and the subject to be studied, as well as how much supervision the student seems likely to require. Based on these factors the staff makes it's decision about accepting an internship at the Boekman Foundation.
On the 6th of June 2012, the ceremony of the second Boekman Dissertation Award will take place. Dissertations at Dutch universities in 2009, 2010 and 2011 that highlights the social context and the administrative environment of art and culture, are eligible for the award. The prize consists of a sum of € 10,000. Furthermore, our journal Boekman devotes attention to the theme of the winning dissertation in the year following the presentation. Registration for the price closed on January 31, 2012.
Marijke de Valck received the first Boekman Dissertation Prize in 2009 for her dissertation Film festivals: history and theory of a European phenomenon that became a global network (in English) defended at the University of Amsterdam in 2006.
Independent and unique research results can often be found in the final papers students write to round off their study. Unfortunately this work remained mostly unnoticed. To change this the Boekman Foundation started a national depot for theses on art-research in 1989. As a result the library now has a valuable collection of theses on the subject, freely accessible through our (web) catalogue.
Meanwhile the structure of academic higher education and higher professional education in the Netherlands has changed considerably. The library felt it necessary to adjust her collection policies towards the intake of all final papers. For theses and master's theses nothing changes. They will be gladly received as of old. Bachelor's theses however will only be accepted on recommendation of the thesis supervisor or tutor.
Providing the paper meets the conditions mentioned above, the author may choose a title from a selection of our publications. This selection is the same as on offer to new subscribers to our quarterly Boekman. You can send or deliver the thesis to the library of the Boekman Foundation.
